Why inspections are essential for warehouse systems

Storage facilities have to handle massive loads day in and day out. Regular and thorough inspections of the systems are essential to ensure the safety of the people working in the warehouse and to avoid disruptions caused by defective warehouse systems. Many signs of wear and tear are not immediately obvious at first glance.

For example, a pallet racking system may seem strong and robust under load due to its solid appearance, yet it is ultimately just a free-standing skeleton structure whose stability is only guaranteed by the rigidity of the individual components, the strength of the joints and the floor anchoring system.

To absorb and distribute the forces correctly, these structures must retain their almost perfect overall geometry from the time they are assembled and the components must retain their original properties.

However, the racking is constantly subjected to a variety of forces: shocks, jolts, vibrations, compressive and tensile forces, etc.

Consequently, it is unlikely that these structures will remain in perfect condition over the long term. The external forces can deform the components, causing them to lose their geometric stability.

The same applies to shuttles and autonomous mobile robots. They have to handle heavy loads on a daily basis. Regular inspections are essential to ensure safety and prevent failures.

Inspection of all racks by our certified rack inspectors

The European standard EN 15635 establishes standards for the design and calculation of storage systems by the manufacturer. It also clearly and explicitly defines the storage rack user’s daily responsibilities. The standard also stipulates regular inspections of racking systems to identify unseen hazards in your warehouse in time.

Proof that the racking has been maintained properly and regularly and is safe can be vital to you as an operator with regard to liability.

The Inspections are carried out by specially trained and certified Movu professionals. Our inspectors understand the material and are able to classify and assess specific deformations (impact protection, anchoring, safety bolts, supports and beams) based on objective criteria specified by the standard.

At the end of the inspection, a qualified report is issued describing the general condition of the installation and outlining the measures to be taken. These are divided into risk classes according to the severity of the damage and the urgency of the repairs.

Movu inspection services

In many countries, professional associations prescribe an annual inspection of batteries and battery chargers. This may only be carried out by specially qualified persons.

Movu inspectors inspect all battery-powered vehicles and robots, such as Movu ifollow and Movu eligo, as well as their charging stations. The scope of the inspection includes voltage measurements, visual inspection of cables, inspection of insulation and more. This not only prevents potential failures, but also minimises the risk of ignition.

Our experts also perform functional checks and safety tests to prevent accidents and reduce the number of unplanned downtimes.
